The QA Lead/Test Analyst is the primary test resource in our technical development team. They are required to complete system testing themselves, coordinate UAT with business stakeholders and write regression test plans to be then executed within set timeframes. Where they discover defects they log them. Key stakeholders are business managers and internal tech team management. They use good communication skills for various interactions across the business, being able to explain defects and manage user expectations during the test and release process.

What the role involves:

  • Create and document regression test plans for digital web applications, XML API applications and for a sales office travel transactional reservation system, Tigerbay.  
  • Attend out of hours, early morning release updates where new code is promoted to live.
  • Write test plans and perform functional, standards and cross-browser testing
  • Create automated scripts using Jmeter and various automation tools, e.g. Selenium
  • Identify and document all system errors, logging issues in JIRA
  • Maintain a repository of system test plans
  • Ensure all work meets customer expectations and departmental standards
  • Maintain an active knowledge of software testing tools, standards and processes
  • Develop a wide understanding of Newmarket’s core websites and back office systems from a non-testing perspective
  • Act as key point of contact for all QA aspects of releases, providing QA services and coordinating QA resources internally and externally
  • Establish and evolve formal QA processes, ensuring that the team is using industry-accepted best practices
  • Oversee all aspects of quality assurance including establishing metrics, applying industry best practices, and developing new tools and processes to ensure quality goals are met
  • Act as key point of contact for all QA aspects of releases, providing QA services and coordinating QA resources internally and externally
  • Lead and mentor Technology team members
  • Develop and execute test cases, scripts, plans and procedures (manual and automated)
  • Work with Technology & Newmarket teams/users to provide solutions to identified issues/bugs
  • Provide statistics on test success and progress to the Technical Delivery Manager

The Essential skills:

  • High level of IT literacy
  • Front end Web/Browser based application testings (UX/UI based testing of a transactional web application)
  • Demonstrated ability to write and execute Selenium test scripts
  • Understanding of manual and automated code review / governance
    processes (e.g. Sonar / Clover)
  • Demonstrated ability to write and execute automation scripts using Jmeter
  • Experience of logging ticket defects and tracking them through JIRA and or Test Rail
  • Understanding of web services, experience testing Legacy .ASP and .Net applications
  • Experience testing and analysing report outputs from a SQL server
  • Ability to write SQL queries to validate data sources in an MSSQL server
  • Ability to define test cases from functional and Business requirements
  • Expert in cross browser/environment testing
  • Experience in test automation
  • Knowledge of web standards and technologies including accessibility compliance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent planning, organisation and time management skills
  • Professional, positive and results oriented approach
  • The ability to work in a team and as an individual
  • Excellent writing skills (for documenting the process & providing information for project reports)
  • The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, may involve some out of hours work for some implementation
