BI Technical Analyst

Business Intelligence & Data Warehousing | £350 - 450 per day | Birmingham, England, West Midlands

BI Technical Analyst

BI Technical Analyst is needed to join a leading Retailer based near Birmingham on an initial 6 months contract paying between £350 – £450 per day depending on experience.

This is a new requirement within the organisation. The level & quality of BI documentation is currently insufficient, meaning that domain knowledge is hard to acquire for either new starters, or individuals from other related teams (e.g. support, infrastructure). Also, a lot of documentation is now out of date, and is not actively being refreshed despite the BI solution being constantly updated.

The main objectives of the project are:

– Complete refresh of all current BI lifecycle documentation, to bring it up to date and stored in an easily-understandable centralised documentation sitemap. This is to ensure that all mandatory domain knowledge is recorded and shareable, rather than being reliant on a small number of individuals.

– Supporting new ways of working processes so that all impacted team resources (e.g. developers, QA testers) have new day-to-day mandatory tasks to ensure that all documentation refreshed via step 1 is kept up-to-date on an ongoing basis.

Day to day responsibilities for the BI Technical Analyst include:

– Overall ownership of the new BI documentation sitemap (new shared documentation library) and understanding the entirety of the documentation that is required.

– Reviewing existing documentation against new sitemap requirements and establishing the amount of update/refresh/rewrite required.

– Meeting with team members to explain the need for this documentation process, and then discuss and review existing documentation produced per team member.

– Updating or creating artefacts (documents, spreadsheets, presentations) as per the required new standards for the BI documentation sitemap.

The essential skills & experience required for the BI Technical Analyst include:

– Creation & update of BI documentation in support of the entire BI development lifecycle (requirements, design, development, testing, implementation, support & training).

– Working with other technical resources (business analysts, project managers, solution architects, developers (ETL & Reporting) and testing/QA resources – to understand their scope of work, current approach to documentation, and location of any documents / artefacts.

– Being able to understand the best approach for documenting different outputs (e.g. when to use documents, spreadsheets or presentations to best reflect the output required).

– Underlying knowledge about business intelligence (BI) and the end-to-end development lifecycle.
